This is a piece of clip art scanned into Corel Draw.
It's very simple to turn the artwork into a negative image. Use the fill tool to make the background black and use the line tool to turn the image white. On the right side of the Corel workspace are palette colors. With the artwork selected, left click on the black which makes the background black. Right click on the white to turn the design white.
A 600 dpi LaserJet has enough toner density . The negative is made with Transparency Film for Laser Printers. The area of the transparency that isn't covered by an image isn't wasted. This scrap clear film is used as a temporary base sheet.
The negative is placed on glass plates that have magnetic strip so the die thickness can be controlled. Weather stripping is used to act as a dam to contain the liquid resin. The resin is about the consistency of honey and poured right on the negative.
The temporary base sheet is placed on top of the resin puddle and then contained by placing a top piece of glass with magnets to hold the assembly together. An exposure is made thru the negative. No base exposure is made for this type of die.
Unexposed resin is water soluble and is washed away in cold tap water . Dishwashing liquid helps washout.
Next the die is peeled away from the temporary base sheet. The die is slightly tacky or sticky and is taken care of by placing in a post exposure solution. The whole process takes about 15 minutes. Designs with lettering or other small elements that need to be supported by a base are done the same way with the additional base exposure. The longer the exposure thru the base, the thicker the base.
